BUENA PARK, CA, June 13, 2006 -The colorful and unique fiesole artichokes are being packaged and marketed exclusively by Legacy Farms, a Southern California-based grower-packer distributor. It is the first value-added produce item to carry the Legacy brand.
The fiesole variety, featuring a dark purple color, originated in the European growing areas of Provence, Tuscany and Venice and is now grown along the central coast of California.
Smaller than the traditional green California artichoke, the fiesole is famous for its tenderness, taste and color, which does not fade when cooked. Besides steaming or boiling, this artichoke variety is delicious stir fried or sautéed.
Available in a two or a four-count package that carries a UPC stripe, the fiesole (fee-ess-olay) will be available through mid-October. For additional information, contact Dennis Marchese in Legacy’s Buena Park, CA headquarters at 714-736-1800.
Nick Cancellieri, a Legacy partner, says the Legacy brand will also offer a number of items including hot-house tomatoes, bell peppers and green beans.
